RESISTANCE THROUGH JOY! Four Corners Guides’s Statement on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Packrafting Instruction

We commit to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment on the rivers and water bodies on which we teach packrafting; where all our clients, no matter race, gender/agender or sexual orientation, feel valued and respected. We recognize that diversity of thought and experience enriches the entire packrafting community and drives improvements in packrafting instruction. Thus, we are dedicated to challenging bias, promoting equity, and fostering a sense of belonging for all packrafters.

FCG's Core Principles Related to DEI in Packrafting Instruction:

Diversity: We recognize and value the unique attributes and backgrounds of all aspiring or experienced packrafters.
Equity: We seek to provide fair and just access to packrafting opportunities and resources, acknowledging that not everyone starts from the same place.

Inclusion: We seek to foster a culture where anyone taking one of our packrafting or other courses feels they belong in that course and are valued and respected.

What We Are Committed to Doing to Actualize Our Core Principals:
Challenging Bias

The owners of our company commit to identifying and addressing unconscious biases and systemic barriers that may hinder equal opportunities we offer prospective guides and clients.

Promoting Representation

While we will remain a small company, and only ever have one full-time employee, Lizzy Scully, who is queer and female. To the extent possible, we commit to seeking a diverse group of guides to train, partner with and work for our company.

Providing Support

Implementing policies and programs that support individuals from underrepresented groups. Lizzy does this through her work as a founder of and the administrator for FCG partner, The Armida Huerta Adventure Fund, a program offering scholarships to BIPOC women and folks from the LGBTQ++ communities to take packrafting courses anywhere in the United States AND by offering free courses for these communities.

Fostering Respect

We strive to cultivate a culture of respect, open communication, and understanding with our clients, followers and guides.

Continuous Improvement

We will regularly evaluate and improve our DEI efforts to ensure we can get more people out learning how to packraft no matter their race, gender/agender or sexual orientation!!!
