As of April 2023: The ACLU is tracking 452 anti-LGBTQ bills in the U.S. this legislative session. Of those, 452,118 are anti-trans health care bills, and there’s a slew of trans Althea bans, public accomodations bans, drag bans, and education gag orders about gender identity, sexuality and expression. We’re experiencing an unprecedented surge in attacks on trans people in particular, and trans kids most specifically.

Our Commitment to the trans & queer community

We are committed to supporting the LGBTQ+ community through these tough times. We had planned to run a retreat this September. Unfortunately, because it’s a purely volunteer-run effort at this point, we have not been able to finalize the details of the course. We want to ensure we are able to create a safe space for participants and also for mentors/instructors. Our goal is to announce a spring/summer date for this retreat by the end of the summer or early autumn. In the meantime, we promise to update you on the progress we are making.

For now, we have draft documents of the following ready for review:

  • Registration Form for Participants
  • Creating a Safe Space for Participants and Instructors/Mentors
  • The Course Itinerary, which I will share the basics of below
  • What We Are & Are Not Offering at the Retreat (i.e. it’s not a retreat to process trauma, but rather a retreat to share joy in the outdoors)

We hope to have these documents finalized by the end of August. At that point, we will start to fund raise to make this retreat a reality. If you wish to volunteer your time to review these documents, please email us. We welcome your assistance.

We will also include a complete list of costs by November 1st for which we are fundraising. Steve and I are donating the space, lodging, our equipment and our time. But we have to pay other guides, mentors and for food.

Best wishes,

Lizzy & Doom
