Wildlife Tracking @ Scullbinder Ranch
Fostering deep ecological literacy through the immersive practice of wildlife tracking
Check in for this course is Friday night, October 2. We’ll have nightly presentations at Scullbinder Ranch. All meals provided from dinner on Friday night through lunch on Sunday.
Course Overview
What can a single footprint reveal—not just about the life of an animal, but about our own relationship to the land?
In this interactive two-day workshop, we’ll explore wildlife tracking as a powerful practice for developing ecological literacy. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of track and sign interpretation, and how this ancient art—practiced by our human ancestors and sustained in Indigenous cultures today—cultivates a heightened sensitivity to place, pattern, and the more-than-human world.
We’ll examine how tracking goes far beyond species identification. It’s an embodied way of knowing that awakens curiosity, imagination, and a deeper awareness of ecological relationships. Drawing on the work of tracker-scientist Louis Liebenberg and contemporary nature connection models, this session offers practical tools, stories, and perspectives to help you begin seeing the natural world with new eyes.
Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or just beginning your journey into nature observation, this workshop invites you to slow down, sharpen your senses, and remember how to read the living landscape.
No prior experience in tracking required. All levels welcome.
Check in at the Ranch Friday night will be after 4:30pm. We prefer you come before dark. Class will be held from 8am-4:30pm Saturday and 8am-3:30pm Sunday.

Instructor
Osiris Ledbetter
Born and raised in the Piedmont bioregion of Georgia, Osi’s connection with the natural world was nurtured in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southern Appalachia. His fascination with the interplay between nature and human development led him to pursue an MA in Ecopsychology at Naropa University. Furthering his explorations into the natural world, Osiris spent a year at Wilderness Awareness School in Western Washington as part of the adult immersion program, learning the core routines of a naturalist. Two years later, he completed a year-long wildlife tracking intensive, earning a Professional Wildlife Tracking certification through Tracker Certification North America. This hands-on experience, paired with his academic background, empowered him to become a dedicated environmental educator—teaching science-based programs in schools, mentoring youth in outdoor settings as a nature-connection instructor, while guiding and directing rites of passage ceremonies for all ages. At the heart of Osi’s work is a deep commitment to place-based skills such as wildlife tracking, bird language, and natural movement. He believes that developing an ecological sense of self is fundamental to health, sanity, and kincentric embodiment. When he’s not leading educational programs, you’ll likely find Osi marveling at birds in the forest, crawling on the ground to study tracks, or taking a rejuvenating plunge in the Animas River.
